He was primarily a painter and engraver specialising in metal techniques. He is mainly known for his landscape works of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht among others. He also worked with the Villeroy&Boch manufactory designing one of their coffee and breakfast services, on which he painted black and white views of Amsterdam.
Roodenburg was a member of leading artists’ associations such as Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and Pulchri Studio in The Hague. The book ‘H.E. Roodenburg (1895-1987): topografisch etser’ provides an almost complete overview of his graphic works.
