Set in Nowa Huta, the film’s plot alludes both in its poetics and themes to Italian neo-realism. The film’s premiere took place on 21 October 1957, but it was not screened for long because it presented a very bleak image of Nowa Huta, which was to be one of the flagship symbols of socialist realism. As a result, the film was taken off the air after a few days of broadcasting. Interestingly, the film “Lost Feelings” was awarded the “Warsaw Mermaid” in 1957 – the award for the best Polish film of the year given by the SDP Film Critics Club during the Lubuskie Film Summer.
